How game-day weather changes an NFL game

Wind on kicks and deep throws, cold and rain on ball handling: weather is one of the few game-day factors that changes how a football game is played. This report tracks the kickoff forecast for every NFL game of the week — wind speed and direction resolved against each stadium's field orientation, temperature, precipitation chance, humidity, and whether the venue is open to the weather at all — and refreshes it through the week as kickoff approaches.

How these weather readings are computed

Every reading comes from an hourly forecast pinned to the stadium's own coordinates, not a citywide summary, and a neutral-site game is never forecast at the wrong city. The card's headline reading is the hour nearest kickoff, and the hourly strip below it is the same forecast from one hour before kickoff to four hours after.

The along-field and crosswind figures are that forecast wind resolved against the stadium's field orientation, so the same 14 mph breeze that runs the length of one field can be a near-pure crosswind at another. A fixed dome carries no readings, and a retractable roof confirmed closed withholds them.
